Hello, I am Simonetta Gomiero, owner of Pataviumart, a company specialized in the design
and production of decorative lighting, artistic table lamps, luxury chandeliers and handmade lampshades, located between the province of Padua and Venice ( Veneto – Italy).
All the items belonging to our showroom, with direct sale to the public, are entirely of Italian production.
With this article, I would like to share with you Pataviumart “pride and joy”: the workshop where we tailor most of our wonders.
It is like a magic workshop, where our ideas become real and small haute couture miracles happen.
The tools we use to tailor our lampshades are the most classic and simple: needle, thread, a pair of scissors and glue.
The techniques with which we realize our customized handmade lampshades are handed down from generation to generation, and mixed with our skills and our know-how, they make every single piece a small object of art.
Today our workshop is managed by Daniela, you can see her get to work in this video.
Daniela has learned over the years the various techniques to manufacture the lampshades and all the small relative secrets directly from my mother, Ines, who learned “the job”, as we call it,in the early 1950s in Milan.

Daniela has in her hands a white silk shade, which pleating is hand sewn, small masterpiece which lasts for a lifetime.
As you can see with your own eyes, our shades are entirely handcrafted, the creases are slowly shaped and then fixed to the frame with needle and thread, as Daniela is doing easily, but with great mastery.
As a matter of fact, the creases must remain orderly, they mustn’t move, they must have a direction and give a sense of homogeneity, these are the basis to make a perfect shade.
There are various types of pleating, they can be tight, regular, they can be realized curled, with larger creases, or oblique, as a tailor made dress, fantasy combined with taste and our ability to make beautiful things, enable us to make a UNIQUE product which lasts as time goes by.
Let’s see a couple of examples. Previously, we have seen a customized shade with tight and small creases, and now Daniela is making a “spicchi” plissé shade.

Try to think how many artisan shades models can be realized and yet, we still haven’t discussed about colours and fabrics.
Honestly, in order to explain you all about the colours and the finishes we would need too many hours…so, in this occasion, we are going to show you just a quick example of colourful shades and fabric shades completely custom-made that we can personalize for every kind of space and kind of luxury lighting: table lamps, chandeliers, wall lamp, floor lamps….
The “spicchi” shade Daniela is completing now: we decided to make it with an ivory chiffon.
The tone of this ivory chiffon is not too warm or too cold, not too close to off-white or dark ivory, let’s say it is a medium nuance, a tonality which was perfectly studied.
Now, to make the lampshade to release a warm light, it is something we really care about, we selected a yellow-gold silk fabric for the inner lining.
You can see the difference between the ivory, the yellow-gold shade and the difference with the classic white colour….
Small pleats and bigger pleats…now let’s switch on the silk lampshade we are creating so we can see the final result.
As a matter of fact, our plissè shade made with beige silk and chiffon has this look, but if we turn the light on, it will look different, it will emanate a yellow ,warm, cozy light, as we like it to be.
As you can see there is an entire world to discover!
The handcrafted shade now is going to be completed, we will add the inner trimmings, the external trimmings, and also in this case the choice is limitless.
This trimming for example, which is in golden colour and very elaborate, just one among hundreds of possibilities, there are even more elaborated trimmings, or simpler also.
There are so many types of trimmings, some suitable for bedrooms, other kind more suitable for a dining room, a chandelier installed above a big dining table…
There is a really wide choice, it is just a question of kind of spaces, tastes and style with which you will prefer to make your home unique and exclusive, thanks also to our customized handmade lampshades!

The luxury shade Daniela is now completing is called “Parigi”.
Probably this model took its name from the city where it was created the first time, in the late 1800s, during the Belle Epoque, Paris shade, called indeed the Ville Lumiere.
Parigi is a kind of colourful shade, often richly embroideired, which is very complicated to be realized and it is essential to have, in addition to the knowledge of the antiques manual skills and sartorial techniques,an unquestionable manual skill.
Normally, we use precious embroidered fabrics or silk with neutral tones.
We can see this Parigi shade as an example, which has a neutral tone, or this one instead, which is not completed yet, that will be realized with brighter colours.
The model Daniela is now completing, we decided to propose it with these mix of colours to make it a little bit…Bohemien…to inspire you, to let you know that by using “old” models but reinterpretating them, we can realize unique and special objects, customized lampshades which are real masterpieces, absolutely precious and exclusive.
Here it is now, switched on, unfortunately it is not easy to see the colours clearly due to the neon lights. The natural light instead will highlight this Bohemien colourful lampashade which will look even more peculiar and evocative.
Another example is this Parigi shade, made with white silk with curled parts and Swarovski crystals application, entirely hand sewn with needle and thread.
….All that, for us in Pataviumart, as I like to repeat, is the concept of luxury!
We are in need of things which last as time goes by….we realize customized lampshades and luxury objects, which can be repaired and renovated, things that as we have seen, can be renewed for example just by changing the trimmings.
Our advice, that we would like to share with you, is to buy maybe a few pieces, but really beautiful and longlasting.
We will give also our contribute to make the world where we live in more sustainable.
